The KIIT School of Liberal Studies has been designed to promote interdisciplinary studies in the areas of humanities and social sciences. The departments of English, Sociology, Psychology, Foreign Languages and Literatures and Library Science are dovetailed under one blanket so that the door to a broad expanse of ideas opens to the students. Their appeal to employers will broaden in diverse career paths. The Liberal Studies School will facilitate the development of skill-set and allow the students to forge innovation through critical understanding, creative imagination, communication and a humanistic experience of their family, society and culture.

Experiential and Empirical Learning
Each course is designed with emphasis on experiential and empirical learning opportunities through field work, internships and co-op.
Capstone Projects
A common capstone classroom connects the incubation centres located in the campus, the centre for Innovative Research (COIR), and the KIIT Centre for Leadership. Non-profit organizations, start-ups, business and media houses sponsor and support this capstone classroom.
Study Abroad
Students have the option of studying one full semester or part of a semester credit or non-credit allied topics in overseas universities across Asia, Europe, America, Australia and Africa.
Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies (CCLCS)
The Center for Innovation and Research is an initiative of KIIT-DU to strengthen the university’s focus on interdisciplinarity and innovative knowledge production. As part of this initiative, the Centre for Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies seeks to promote socially engaged research that addresses contemporary cultural, political, and technological challenges through critical and cross-disciplinary approaches. Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies are transdisciplinary fields that explore intertextual relations across different temporalities and spatialities, and facilitate dialogues between diverse disciplines. They offer critical insights into the complexities and nuances of cultural plurality and question textual, social, and cultural hierarchies, building inclusive and cohesive spaces.
Department of English and Applied Humanities
The Department of English and Applied Humanities was established in the year 1997 to meet the growing demand for professionals in the wake of globalization. At present School of Humanities is located in the D Block, Campus 3, Kathajodi Campus.
The School offers courses in three areas – English, Economics and Management for the technical curriculum. It also offers Ph. D. Programme in English and Economics. The School conducts Bridge Courses for the international students taking admission to KIIT. Foreign students have been awarded Ph. D. degrees and are also pursuing Ph. D. in the School. In order to enrich the research platform of the School, faculty members organize International Conferences on contemporary issues. The School conducts Faculty Development Programmes on recent developments in academic and professional domains.
Department of Sociology
The Department of Sociology is dedicated to fostering a thorough and responsible understanding of contemporary society. By staying informed about global and local changes in social life, economics, politics, culture, and daily living, we equip our students to critically analyze their surroundings with strong sociological foundations and interdisciplinary awareness. Our programs emphasize emerging global issues such as health, security, poverty, sustainability, technology, law, and governance. We blend classical and contemporary approaches to key themes like family and kinship, religion and ritual, social hierarchies, rural and urban dynamics, art and aesthetics, and sensory experiences. Our teaching methods adhere to the highest standards of social science excellence, emphasizing rigorous methodologies and theoretical discussions.

Department of Library and Information Science at KIIT Deemed to be University is dedicated to educating future leaders in the field of library and information science. We prepare students to excel in managing libraries, archives, information centers, and beyond with intense focus on advanced research, and practical training.

Established in 2007, the Department offers various courses in Foreign & Indian Languages for career augmentation. In order to cater the human resource needs of a competitive global marketplace, the department has brought out a 4-year NEP 2020 compliant Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme in German, French, Japanese and Spanish. It also offers short-term certificate evening courses in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Mandarin), Spoken English, Odia, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Sanskrit. The industry-oriented curriculum on foreign language, both for Degree and Certificate courses, taught by experts from reputed Universities cater to the development of globally recognized skill-set and competitive edge among students for careers worldwide.
