Bachelor of Arts (B.A) Hons. in Sociology

Bachelor of Arts in Sociology is a three-year undergraduate programme that aims to understand how social structures, human relations and the behaviour of individuals influence civilizations and their cultures. The programme introduces students to a sociological perspective a certain way of looking at the world, its societies and the changes that take place.

  • The candidate should have passed 10+2 in any discipline  with minimum 50% marks.

The educational objective of the course is to provide students theoretical and empirical knowledge in the domain of Sociology. The course design includes core papers, discipline specific specializations, and open electives. Outmost importance is given towards the enhancement 0f professional skills.  Teaching philosophy of this programme demonstrates a fine blend of intense academic churning and student friendliness. It comprising of lectures, fieldwork, classroom discussions and presentations. MAJOR 

The Sociology major offers a robust foundation for students pursuing careers in the social sciences, while also equipping them with essential skills for a variety of professions where an understanding of societies is crucial. 

This distinctive undergraduate program encourages students to connect coursework from the Humanities and Social Sciences with disciplines such as Natural Sciences, Engineering, Technology Studies, Communication, and Business. Through this multidisciplinary approach, the Sociology major fosters the development of engaged and analytical scholars who excel as thoughtful readers, critical thinkers, articulate writers, and innovative social analysts. 

Graduates will be well-prepared to navigate and contribute meaningfully to a rapidly changing India and its evolving role in the global landscape. MINOR

Undergraduate students from other disciplines can explore the realms of Sociology through a range of University-Wide Electives (UWEs) offered each semester by the Department. For those seeking a deeper understanding of the discipline, including its core themes, analytical frameworks, and methodologies, a Minor in Sociology is highly recommended. 

To earn a Minor in Sociology, students must complete six courses, with at least three drawn from the “Core Themes in Sociology: 8 Foundational Courses” series. This pathway provides a comprehensive introduction to the subject, enriching students’ academic experience and broadening their perspectives across diverse fields of study.
