The seraphic event “KULTURE KERMIS,the Sociology Carnival 2025,” marking the up- roar of Sociology as a discipline at KIIT as well as the prancing attitude of the flourishing Sociology Department, was organized on 29 November 2025 by the Department of Sociology, KIIT DU. “The Sociological imagination enables us to grasp history and biography and the relation between the two within the society”, slightly as penned down by the eminent Sociologist C Wright Mills linking the personal truths to the public realities the euphoric Kulture Kermis brought us a platform to showcase talent & come up with pragmatic ideas on Sociological dynamics. To be laconic, the event focused on games, competitions, performances where the students enthusiastically believed in -‘we talk Sociology, we walk Sociology, we live Sociology, and we experience Sociology beyond classrooms & books. A massive number of students registered for the event: 60 participants from the prestigious Universities & schools across Bhubaneswar & Cuttack: Mother’s Public School, Ravenshaw University, Sailabala Women’s College, Ramadevi College etc,recorded total 200 participants, where the students were accompanied by the teachers to motivate their participation.Students were accompanied by the teachers to motivate their participation. The organising committee performed on the Spot team adjustments clustering the members/participants into teams:Team RV, Team 5 Fold Exp, Seven Structures, The Nepal Team Juggernauts.

The department hosted four major events (competitions) on the basis of which scores could be counted and a number of refreshing games like icebreakers (Quiz Fiesta), flash mob performed by the students of Sociology Dept, Ping-Pong throws and Balloon Blast. The first half of the session began with the lamp lighting in reverence by all the faculty members, after which the National Anthem stirred in a spirit of patriotism among the students and teachers, followed by the galvanising speech of the Associate Dean Dr. Ananya Das Ma’am. To encourage the students, an inspiring speech was delivered by the event co-ordinator Dr. Tania Mishra Ma’am. The ambience filled with reverence with the talks of the Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Raju K D Sir, KIIT DU,who addressed the guests which summed up the formal session.
The informal session began with an ice- breaker – the quiz-fiesta where 20 Sociology centred questions were asked. The first major event “Norm Breakers – Decide & Tell: Moments that Matter” urged the participants as a team to create a picture story with captions on sociological themes.
The 2nd major event – Frame Frenzy lit up a spark when participants were asked to create a 1-2 minute reel or 3-5 meme panel on social themes. The lunch break followed the 1st phase. Food coupons were issued during registration, hence the participants enjoyed a sumptuous meal along with refreshments. The students of the department made an effort to arrange food stalls for the guests with snacks & beverages. The 2nd half of the event began with Slay It Carnival – Where Vibe Meets Talent, urging the students to represent social, cultural themes through fashion
shows with their own outfits and props and the last event marked “Folkloric Fusion” Groove & Move Beats Unbound, featuring a traditional urban dance performance blending heritage & modern rhythm highlighting cultural & social identity focused on storytelling, cultural essence, learning & engagement. The fun corners – art corner: creating sociological symbols, face painting & caricature booths – “express yourself” & snack corner – were a spot of attraction. The event sheltered themes like youth identity,culture, peer pressure,social media vs real life, gender inequality,student activism,mental health and many such burning social themes.
The event wrapped up with the closing ceremony encompassing presenting the souvenirs to the accompanying teachers as a mark of respect dollowed by the prize distribution ceremony where the winner of the events were awarded with trophies,cash prizes and online certificates. The KIIT ANTHEM marked the closure of the long day event with a tint of great fulness towards the promising and prestigious University of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology,DU.
The carnival achieved its success through the backbreaking hard work of all the faculty members with the toil of the students who clustered themselves into Organising Committee, tech dept, decoration, food, anchoring, photography, logistics making it an indelible event.
